Towards the late nineties and early 2000, the impact of HIV on both human and economic levels became a matter of concern for entrepreneurs located in Africa. In France, the first brainstorming session was launched by the “Conseil Français des Investisseurs en Afrique” (CIAN). These sessions led to the creation of the SIDA-ENTREPRISES association in May 2003.
Objectives
SIDA-ENTREPRISES aims at providing support to it members in order to develop policies for fighting HIV through their subsidiaries located in Africa via the implementation of programmes. These programmes are developed to inform and sensitise employees and their families, or even service-providers and neighbouring communities about HIV-AIDS and to promote access to AIDS-tests and treatment while ensuring confidentiality.
4 values
Members of SIDA-ENTREPRISES commit to 4 values:
Commitment
inform, protect and provide support to employees for fighting HIV
Respect
preserve individuals against any type of discrimination and commit to upholding their rights within the enterprise
Effectiveness
mobilise resources, implement field action and measure results
Sharing
unite in order to act together, exchange experiences and develop tools which are better adapted
